Our Classes

We offer FREE introductory classes, and simply love sharing our passion for the fiber arts with our enthusiastic customers.  Private classes and project guidance sessions (fee based) with one of our expert stitchers can also be scheduled.  If we can help out with a project already in progress, break you of some recently learned, self-taught “bad habits” (we don’t judge), or simply help you grow your skill set, stop in and see us soon! Young stitchers aged 8 and above are welcome to join when accompanied by an adult also interested in learning to knit or crochet.

Free Classes

We offer complimentary classes for the aspiring fiber artist in both Knitting and Crochet. While there is no fee for instruction, we respectfully request that you buy any required materials from The Swift Stitch. Participation in our introductory classes is strictly limited to five students per session, and attendance must be arranged in advance, so please call us to add your name to the list. Intro classes are taught on the weekends only.  Students should come prepared to learn the basics: how to cast on, how to knit or single crochet, and how to bind off.  Please do not sign up for an intro class if you already have a command of the basics—instead, give us a call and add your name to the “Next Steps” class, or arrange for a private lesson with one of our expert stitchers.  No prior experience required for intro classes—just come with an open mind and the requisite patience required to learn an exciting and creative new hobby.

PATTERN READING BASICS, KNIT OR CROCHET

Once you’ve completed our free introductory knit or crochet class, you’re ready to take your stitching to the next level.  Often times the language of patterns can be quite perplexing, and Alison can help demystify even the most complicated pattern so that you can complete your first “other than a scarf” project!  Basic and not so basic pattern abbreviations will be covered in this class, as well as gauge, sizing, and techniques such as cabling, increasing and reducing, or stitching in the round.  Ideally, you should come equipped with both an “advanced beginner” or intermediate pattern that you’d like to create (we recommend a quick search on Ravelry to find a suitable pattern), and the requisite yarn and needles/hooks required to complete your project.  Please arrive early if you’d like our assistance or guidance.
